CPI General Secretary Com. Survaram Sudhakar Reddy's open letter to Mr Narendra Modi, Prime Minister

New Delhi
29th May 2015

To,
          Shri Narendra Modi
          Hon’ble Prime Minister
          Government of India
          New Delhi.

Dear Shri Narendra Modiji,

I have read with interest your letter addressed to ‘fellow citizens of the country’ on the occasion of the completion of one year of your assumption to the post of Prime Minister of the nation. You have explained the activities of your government during the period. I felt that I should write to you regarding what we feel about your achievements and their results.

I know you are working hard visiting several countries to bring FDIs to India, though there is a valid criticism that you have spent 53 days to tour 18 countries in the last one year but have toured only 48 days in India. You may change the balance. But your tours are business ones not political ones as our earlier Prime Ministers did. Some of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s interactions with Heads of Nations at conferences like ‘Bandung’ and his inking of ‘Panchseel’ with Chou en Lai are historic. However, your efforts to improve relations with our neighbours and trade relations with Asian, Latin American countries should yield positive results as the US and European countries are in crisis and trying to throw their burden on developing countries like India.

But your claim that your government is trying to improve the poorest on the principle of ‘Antyodaya’ is unfounded. Contrary, the Land Acquisition Ordinance is against the peasants particularly the poor peasants. Labour reforms are against the workers who are producing wealth by their sweat and blood. Your proposal to make it difficult for workers to organise trade unions certainly is not in favour of the poor but helps only the rich industrialists to exploit more.

I hereby give you the list of a few poor Indians who benefited in your one year rule. The following corporates added exorbitantly to their wealth this year.

Gautam Adani                         Rs 50,000 crore
Bharati Group (Sunil Mittal)   Rs 60,000 crore
HDFC                                      Rs 1,00,000 crore
SUN Group                                      Rs 1,00,000 crores
Tatas                                       Rs 1,10,000 crores

The total increase of corporate houses during this period is Rs 10 lakh crores. Those benefited are Mahindras, ICICI, Infosys Wipro, HVL and HCL etc. (Source PTI).

The one-year has seen continuous rise in prices of all essential commodities as the big business are free to manipulate prices through hoarding and forward trading. Certainly this is not a proud record in favour of people. Suicides of farmers are still continuing, poverty is on increase, prices of food grains and all other essential commodities have gone up. Atrocities on women, dalits and terror on minorities are is on the increase. Among people who were surveyed, more than 60% are saying that corruption has increased.

Your claim is that power brokers’ raj has been demolished. But now the one-man rule has got reduced to the old style. Your party campaign resembles the ‘India shining campaign’ of your party widely publicised before its miserable defeat 11 years back.

The threat to abolish special status to north-eastern states is against the federal principle on the pretext that the Finance Commission has recommended 42% to states. But on the whole it is less by 1% than it was earlier to states’ share (6% to 5%).

Also, banning of beef in some BJP ruled states is interfering with the food habits of people. Muslims, Christians, Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, and some other caste people eat beef. Your minister wants all of them to go to Pakistan if they want to eat beef. This gives an impression that you do not have any control on their utterances, which are foolish and insulting majority of our population.

Under your one-year rule, attacks on the minorities have increased. In the national capital itself, there had been anti-Muslim violence in Trilokpuri and ghastly attacks on churches and other Christian institutions.

Your calculated silence on vicious outbursts of leaders of various outfits of Sangh Parivar is the main cause of their encouragement. Please break your silence and explain your approach on the policy of your party and Sangh Parivar. It is going to destroy the secular fabric of our country.

Dear Shri Modiji,

I have quoted only a few examples. One year is certainly a review time. Rethink about your policies, come out from the clutches of corporates and stand with the poor and exploited people of our mother land. Introspect with heart and soul. Decide whether you are with the exploiting corporates or with the people of India.

          With regards,

Yours Sincerely,

(Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy)
Former Member of Lok Sabha

General Secretary, CPI
