Anti-price hike strike fixed on April 27

Imphal, April 25 2010: The nation-wide strike being planned by Opposition political parties in protest against escalating price of essential commodities would be joined by the working class of Manipur, said national Secretary of Communist party of India L Sotinkumar.Speaking to newspersons at the irabot Bhavan office of the CPI today, Sotinkumar said the day-long general strike planned for April 27 would be joined by employees/workers of State-based banks, LIC, medical representatives, pharmacists, women vendors, drivers, rickshaw pullers and employees of some flight services.Contending that budgetary provisions of the Congress-led UPA Government is anti-poor, the CPI functionary also alleged that rather than take a holistic look on the negative points being pointed out by Left parties against the Central Government's economic policy, the Communist parties are being projected in poor light.Informing that the strike centred around cessation of economic activities would be held from 6 am till 4 pm, he also disclosed that in continuation of the protest against hike in prices of essential commodities Left parties would insist on a cut motion discussion on the issue.The cut motion with support of 13 opposition political organisations would proposed for a voice vote failing which the entire opposition MPs are ready to stage a walk-out, Sotinkumar maintained.Joining the media briefing, CPI state Secretary Sarat Salam confided that the cut motion would have the support of 278 MPs.All India Forward Block secretary Kh Gyaneswor and RSP secretary N Ratan were also presented at the briefing.
