BRIEF ON PRESS CONFERENCE OF CPI GENERAL SECRETARY S. SUDHAKAR REDDY AT LUCKNOW TODAY

CPI Gen. Secy. S. Sudhakar Reddy in Press Conference at Lucknow

Lucknow 14th May. "CPI shall work hard for building a program based left democratic alternative to Congress led UPA and BJP led NDA", said S. Sudhakar Reddy, newly elected General Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) in a press conference here in Press Club. He said that UPA & NDA both are pushing the same economic policies of neo-liberalism, which are anti-people & pro corporate houses. These economic policies are leading to galloping gap in between poor & rich. As per international reports, India is one of the worst performers on the front of human development index & hunger index.
CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy informed that left parties shall meet in New Delhi on 23rd May to work out common demands & program. We shall to the public to attain those demands and shall welcome all secular & democratic parties to join us by agreeing to our demands in furtherance of building a pro-people, vibrant, sensitive & strong left & democratic alternative in the country.
"Finance Minister is telling that he is having sleepless nights due to alarming economic situation of the country but his Government is not ready to withdrawn the subsidies being given to corporate houses but repeatedly speaking against the subsidies for common man, which are hardly half of the subsidies being given to corporate houses", said CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy.
CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy, objected on the signals being given by Washington to Indian Government for new edition of retrograde economic reforms. He also vehemently condemned the comments made by rating agency "Standard & Poors" suggesting the same economic reforms while downgrading the rating of India. He questioned why this rating agency not suggested any thing to USA while downgrading rating of USA few months ago.
CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy declared CPI's opposition to proposed reforms of insurance, pension & banking sectors and allowing FDI in retail sector.
CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy demanded fixing per capital income of Rs 100/- per day for identification of BPL. He said that only calorie intake should not be considered for deciding who is BPL or who is APL, instead availability of drinking water, shelter, education, health etc. should also be taken into consideration.
CPI General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy expressed opposion to a non political President. Some intellectual may also be considered but he should have ability, integrity and secular & democratic credentials to become fit for President Ship. He said that the post of President of the country is political and it would be better to have a political person in President House. While rejecting the name of APJ Abdul Kalam, he said that CPI is not averse to his ability as a scientist but not for presidentship. It is duty of the Congress to decide the name for next President and make efforts to build consensus. Only thereafter we shall take a decision to support or suggest a new name. He stressed for a non-congress & non-BJP candidate.
Referring completion of 60 years of Indian Parliament, but objected to the speech of the Prime Minister yesterday in the Parliament. He vehemently condemned the UPA Government for not allowing the elected MPs to raise the issues of Public in the parliament leading to the pandemonium. If they cannot raise issues of public, then what for these MPs are in parliament? He questioned.
Just 50 years ago, parliament completed its longest session of 140 days, but now-a-days, parliament is not meeting even 100 days in a year, said Sudhakar Reddy. Disenchantment has started increasing among the Public, which is not a good signal for democracy. Successive governments are responsible for it. Political system must wake up now.
CPI General Secretary termed Man Mohan Singh as worst Prime Minister of the country till date. On public issues, he is most inefficient, but he is brave enough to serve the interest of US imperialism & corporate houses.  Crony capitalism rose to new heights with much speed under his prime minister ship. Wealth of corporate houses increased many fold but the poor are not getting food even.
He demanded that Akhilesh Government must fulfil his election promises. On completing the studies, the student becomes unemployed in the age group of 18-20 years. After 35 years, people use to settle anyhow. Government must not disappoint this segment, he said.
Increasing employment potentiality of Uttar Pradesh is much more important task. UP is greater than half of Europe. If UP develops, India will develop. New young Chief Minister must give proper attention to this front, Sudhakar Reddy said.
CPI General Secretary was accompanied by Secretary of Nation council of CPI Atul Kumar Anjan, State Secretary Dr Girish and senior leader Pradeep Tewari.
CPI State Council is still in session and its decisions shall be circulated tomorrow.
